What’s out There That’s Good? 7Wonderlicious: Positive App, Products, and Community

For the month of May, it’s my goal to share lots of positive information with you about products, organizations, and people who provide support to you as you strive to promote positive messages to the kids in your life. There are so many to choose from, it’s hard to know where to start!

Today I want to share a great organization with you, 7Wonderlicious.  Their message is that children were placed on this earth to accomplish something remarkable, something that only he or she could do. On the website, they say that their programs and site were created “with one single purpose, to help reduce all threats to girlhood that crush our girls ‘ true nature and potential. We focus on overturning the gender stereotypes that make girls obsess with body image, keep girls from taking leadership roles, that limit girls’ interests in sciences and math and cause them to feel self-aware when playing sports.”

Here are a few of the great resources and products that you can find on their website:

1. The Adventures of the 7Wonderlicious Girls iPhone and iPad app:

This adorable book made up of story cards prompts both girls and boys to see girls as people who can be adventurous, take risks, and make a difference in the world. Its powerful, positive message was designed for kids aged 3-7, so it’s a perfect way to introduce these messages to young children and counteract the more gendered and sexualized messages out there that limit the vision that girls may have for themselves.

2. We all know that there are a lot of inappropriate, sexualized clothing choices out there for kids. But there are also some great options that are appropriate and send affirming messages. Instead of saying “Spoiled Rotten” or “Flirt,” the 7Wonderlicious t-shirts say things like “My super power is my confidence” and “I am wonderfully unique” on them. They have cute graphics and bright colors that kids will love and come in sizes ranging from 2-14 years.

3. One of the points that I’ve emphasized on this blog is that parents, kids, and other caring adults need to have a like-minded community if we’re going to fight sexualized media messages and make choices that change the world. 7Wonderlicious provides an online community that offers a blog, chat, and resources. Especially if you’re finding it difficult to build a community where you live, this important resource could be vitally important in your fight to become a world changer! There’s even a free eBook on Raising Confident Girls that you can download from this site.

Of all of the great products and programs that I’ve found, 7Wonderlicious is special because it combines so many different resources in one place. From positive products to affirming community, you’ll find it here. If you know of other great products and resources that you’d like for me to share with readers this month, please let me know. Together, we can change the world!

7Wonderlicious Community – A group of loving adults raising healthy, happy, strong, smart, confident girls!.

This is so great! Are you familiar with Pigtail Pals? They’re another great organization that creates positive alternatives for girls.
