Sometimes when I talk with people about how media affects children and their identity as they are developing, I get the question, “But if parents just send the right message, does it really matter what media or marketing say?” People really want to believe that, but the truth is that parenting doesn’t occur in a vacuum. Children have multiple systems that interact in shaping the way they see the world. To give a bit of background on the theory that I use to help me think about child development, I created this Crash Course that focuses on Urie Bronfenbrenner’s bioecological theory.
Excellent overview. My area of expertise is focused on temperament, and I learned from this. As a Certified Family Life Educator, I will recommend this to parents I serve.
